Rick Watson was hailed by industry professionals for leading the charge to bring transparency and liquidity back to the European market. “He’s been the spearhead of all the initiatives... You definitely need somebody at a critical time like this to stand up and unify people,” said Sharad Samy, structured finance partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
The 10 sweeping transparency initiatives rolled out by the ESF and eight other industry organizations in July was just one example of Watson’s contribution to this area. The initiatives were designed to establish best practices and increase the amount and quality of information available to market participants. Watson was also praised for his tireless efforts in maintaining a dialogue with regulators throughout the credit crunch, market participants said.
